Executive Support
The Retailer’s management team has significant experience
at Director and Senior Executive level*. In our previous
roles we have occasionally recognised the need for additional
or interim senior level support, which can be very difficult
to source.
Because of our independence, we are able to provide confidential
support and need not be inhibited in what we say by internal
politics. We can provide short-term cover, be a sounding
board for new initiatives, act as mentors or, more formally,
fulfil the responsibilities of a non-executive director.
The benefit of an external
perspective to bring fresh input to potentially tired
organisations is increasingly being recognised:
“Non-executive directors are normally appointed
to the board primarily for their contribution to
the development of the company's strategy. This is
clearly right. We have found general acceptance that
the non-executive directors should have both a strategic
and a monitoring function. In addition, and particularly
in the smaller companies, non-executive directors
may contribute valuable expertise not otherwise available
to management; or they may act as mentors to relatively
inexperienced executives.
What matters in every case
is that the non-executive director should command
the respect of the executives and should be able
to work with them in a cohesive team to further the
company's interest."
